An ongoing collaboration with Holly English
Potato Money was born in 2020 as research imagining an alternate future where potatoes function as currency, exploring how this method might enable a more circular economy and a shift in priorities towards a more sustainable lifestyle. It has since grown to an ideas corporation promoting the concept of a potato currency and debate around financial systems. www.potatomoney.net

"The world had a relatively small number of currencies [...] now the number of potential currencies has exploded [...] Conceptual artists Claudia Sambo and Holly English in a recent work suggested that potatoes could be used as money. After all, the objection that the supply of potatoes could increase massively no longer seems to carry much weight as a counter argument to vegetable money in the wake of the Fed creating $3tn this year. They also propose that the value be tied to their nutritional value, a nice swipe at the argument in economics at what gives value to tokens used as money."
